No. Canada does not accept photos taken at home. The photos have to be taken by a professional and printed on plain top-quality photo paper. There should also be a specific notation on the back side, which we will do for you!
It is not recommended to wear eyeglasses for passport photos. They will reject the photo for even the slightest reflection or variation in the frame or rim of the glasses. If you do decide to wear glasses, your eyes should be open and visible. Do not wear tinted glasses such as sunglasses.
There should be a clear contrast between the white background and the person. Therefore, you should not wear white tops or shirts. Anything worn on the head is also not allowed unless they are for religious reasons. Avoid wearing shiny, reflective or large jewelry as well.
Passport photos are valid for 6 months before your application date.
Unfortunately you can’t smile because you can’t show teeth in the photo. You should have a neutral facial expression for facial recognition software to work properly in order to prevent fraud and identify you.
For babies, their photos can be taken in a car seat as long as there is a white blanket behind their head on the car seat. There shouldn’t be any shadows visible in the picture. Minor variations of a neutral expression are accepted.
